Looks cool but probably not practical (this guy doesn't even get into the difficulty of recycling the exotic metals from the chips.)

Would be good for something the size of a desktop. Even a laptop might be pushing it, these days laptops have everything on one board with few replaceable parts.

Yeah, I saw the Google announcement on Ars Technica but forgot to post here:

Interesting that Google are working on something like this (not sure what they need Phonebloks for to be honest). Apparently they bought some related patents from an Israeli company a few years ago so maybe they've been planning it for ages. Question

They still need to convince other companies to actually make components that conform to some standard. More interesting will be what sort of performance penalty you pay for moving all those components further apart.

I do like the prototype renders(?) though, reassuringly chunky:

Motorola made a deal for multiple years with a 3D system corporation.
Seems like the block phone idea is really approaching cool
